Purchasing an Internet Home Business Marketing Niche Website
Building an internet home business from start to finish can be a complicated, time consuming, stressful task. It can also be a bust financially since many online business go under in just two years. To avoid the hassle of starting from scratch you may want to consider purchasing an internet home business marketing website.
The greatest advantage of this of course is time. You not only save time designing a website but you capitalize on the previous owner’s traffic and conversion rate. Since web design and traffic generation are major time consumers purchasing an internet home business marketing website saves you hours of labor.
But to make this a profitable venture as well as an efficient one, you need to take care to do your research. Not every business being sold will be legitimate or provide you with a suitable return on your investment. To avoid being scammed consider the following.
1. Do a Google search on the person selling you the site. The beauty of the internet is it is an open field for reviews. People who have been jilted will by all means post comments about on blogs and forums. Whois.com will also provide some information about the seller.
2. Scope out information about the website using a site like dnscoop.com. You want to find out the age of the site, inbound links, page rank, Alexa traffic rank, and the estimated value of the site. You also want to check the site for duplicate content by using a tool like copyscape.com.
3. Do extensive research about the competition. Even if the numbers look great for the business you are considering you need to know how it fairs in the global market. Good to you may not be considered good compared to other businesses.
4. Get the seller to sign a bullet-proof-non compete clause. It is easy for any seller to set up a competing business in another name.
5. Virtually all online businesses these days rely on email marketing campaigns, so you need to investigate how the seller grows his list and prospects. Because spam is out of control, you could face heavy penalties if you purchase an affiliate marketing website that uses shady tactics to generate leads. The best thing is to choose a business who’s list has been grown with a double opt-in autoresponder.
6. Get a hold of a detailed listing of all the individuals who have access to backend or password for accounts and make sure you change all passwords.
7. Change the contact information and affiliate links. It is a good idea to meet with the webmaster and other people who work on the site if you won’t be doing the work yourself. This may include content providers, SEO experts and marketing managers. Try to make sure the relationship will continue.
Purchasing an internet home business marketing website can save you hundreds of hours of startup labor. If you do your research and buy a business that is already successful you will quickly see a good return on your investment.

Jeff, I think you should write an e-book about the points to consider when purchasing an established website. You are quite informative.
Buying an established, online business is a great option if one’s finances permit. However, if you are new to internet marketing and/or funds are tight, I believe that owning the Plug-in Profit Site (PIPS)and updating it is a better option.
