After all the work you’ve put into driving targeted traffic to your home business website the last thing you want is to have your visitors leave faster than they came. But it seems the only thing harder than getting visitors to your site is getting them to stay long enough to fall in love with your site. However, it’s worth learning how because the longer a visitor stays the more pages they view, the higher they’ll satisfaction will grow, they greater their chance of subscribing or generating revenues for your site.

Here are some ways to keep your home business website visitors from fleeing too soon.

1. Give them something to do immediately. Whether it is a video, an interesting article or a fun quiz, let your visitors give your site attention by quickly introducing them to something that will peak their interest.

You don’t want to keep them doing that activity for too long, just long enough for their interest in your site to grow. Thus a 5-10 minute video, a 400 word article or a 5-12 minuet survey is the recommend length for your browser to become intrigued.

2. Help them stay focused by keeping your content short, sweet, and simple. Obviously the type of wording you can get away with depends heavily on your audience, but regardless of who your audience is help them to avoid eye strain by keeping your paragraphs short—2 to 4 sentences. Make use of white spaces and bold important keywords.

Majority of online readers simply skim text, so by highlighting key concepts and formatting the text to alleviate eye strain you’re more likely to get the reader to stay long enough to get through the content.

3. Avoid creating a collage of information. If you are discussing a product then that should be the focus of that page. Each webpage should host one item of interest. Decide what you want your home business website visitor to do and then get them to perform that task. Too many options will only confuse the reader and drive them away.

4. Create a sense of a community. Letting your visitor comment on your articles, or videos or sharing thoughts in a forum will definitely keep them seated for while. If they see that many people come to your site to discuss topics related to your niche and are encouraged to offer feedback they are more likely to take your home business website seriously and participate.

5. Tell your visitors exactly what you want them to do. It seems silly ask your visitors to “click here to buy the product” but studies have proved, despite how obviously it is, visitors still need simple exact instructions. So whether you want them to “subscribe now,” “grab a copy” or “call a rep” you have to state it somewhere on your website.

6. Add content teasers and a sitemap on your site. You can encourage click thrus by adding enticing excerpts and text links to other pages. This works best when you have web pages that relate well with each other.

It is also recommended that you add a sitemap to your website. This makes it easier for the user to navigate your page. The easier it is for the visitor to find their way around your site the longer they will stay.

Getting traffic is one thing, but getting that traffic to actually stay on your home business website is another. Use the tips above to turn bored browsers into interested visitors, so you can increase your page views.
